The FJSA inducted two former students, Cathie Anderson ‘86 and the late Al Reinert ‘70, to its Hall of Honor on Friday. The event brought together former journalism students, faculty and current students for the ceremony at the Stark Galleries.

Anderson, a veteran journalist at the Sacramento Bee, spoke about the importance of mentors. In fact, one of her own mentors, Sue Burzynski Bullard. The two worked together at The Detroit News in the late ‘80s. In addition to the ceremony, Anderson, Burzynski Bullard and another of Anderson’s former colleagues, Dennis Fulton, spoke on a panel for current students.

Reinert was most remembered for his work documenting America’s space program, such as his 1989 documentary “For All Mankind.” However, Reinert was also a 1996 Academy Award nominee for co-writing the 1995 film “Apollo 13” — one of his few fictional works, Watkins added. One of Reinert’s best friends, Thorne Dryer, accepted the FJSA award on his behalf.
